ERCES through MRI shielding & Joint Commission compliance

Novi Medical Center presented MRI shielding that defeats public-safety RF. WZC engineered a six-sector ERCES that meets both The Joint Commission and IFC 510, delivered in three weeks with first-pass AHJ approval.

The Novi Medical Center design, six ERCES sectors engineered so first-responder coverage holds despite the RF-shielded imaging suite.

The challenge

MRI suites are built to keep RF out, and the same shielding that protects imaging equipment also defeats public-safety radio signal, which made ordinary ERCES design impossible.

The solution

A six-sector ERCES design, sectorized so first-responder coverage holds throughout the facility despite the shielded imaging environment, satisfying The Joint Commission and IFC 510 at once.

Coverage engineered around MRI shielding

MRI suites are built to keep RF out, the same shielding that protects imaging equipment also defeats public-safety radio signal. At Novi Medical Center, that made ordinary ERCES design impossible and demanded an engineering answer.

WZC's answer was a six-sector ERCES design, sectorized so first-responder coverage holds throughout the facility despite the shielded imaging environment.

The design had to satisfy two rulebooks at once, Joint Commission accreditation requirements and IFC 510 fire code. WZC met both, completed the project in three weeks, and earned full first-pass AHJ approval.
