What we have done to make this site usable by everyone, what we know is not finished, and how to tell us when we have got something wrong.

What we are aiming at
We build this site to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is the standard most enterprise and public-sector procurement asks about, and it is a reasonable definition of a site that works for everyone who needs to read it.
We are not claiming to have finished. This page says what is done, what is not, and how to tell us when we have got something wrong.
What is in place
Every interactive element can be reached and operated from a keyboard, and the element with focus is visibly marked rather than silently highlighted.
Animation respects your system's reduced-motion setting: turn it on and the movement on this site stops, including the scroll effects and the counters.
Images that carry meaning have text alternatives, and images that are decoration are marked as decoration so a screen reader skips them rather than reading a filename.
The technical drawings and 3D schematics each carry a written description of what they show, so the argument a drawing is making is available to a reader who cannot see it.
Text meets the contrast ratios the standard sets, on both the light and dark sections of the site.
The ERCES checklist is built to print cleanly in black on white, so it can be carried to a building rather than read on a screen.
What we know is not there yet
The interactive 3D schematics are explorable with a mouse or a finger but not fully operable from a keyboard. Each carries a full text description and a static view, so no information is only available by dragging, but the exploration itself is not yet keyboard-equivalent, and we intend to fix that.
Some PDFs linked from this site were produced outside it and may not be tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will send you the content in a format that works for you.
If something does not work
Tell us. Describe the page and what happened: "the quote form's building-type list cannot be opened with a keyboard" is more useful than "the site is broken", but either will get a reply.
We treat an accessibility fault as a fault, not as a feature request. And whatever the page does, the information on it is available another way: call 248-946-4000 during business hours, or email us, and a person will read it to you, send it in another format, or take your inquiry over the phone.
